Close Race in 19-5A Hardball

As the second half of the high school baseball season continues to round the bases, district 19-5A is shaping up to be a race to the finish.

The surprise team this season is the Rouse Raiders. After going winless in district play just a year ago, and 3-23 overall, the Raiders find themselves in the playoff race currently sitting at 2nd place in 19-5A posting a 8-1 district record. Their lone loss so far in this 2017 campaign was a 3-0 shut out by Cedar Park on March 13. First year Rouse head coach Chad Krempin is no stranger to wins. He guided Salado to the state tournament twice in his five seasons as their head coach. In 2004, he also led 2A Jarrell to the tournament.

As of April 4, the current 19-5A standings with district records are as follows:

  1. Georgetown Eagles 9-1
  2. Rouse Raiders 8-1
  3. Cedar Park Timberwolves 8-2
  4. East View Patriots 5-5
  5. Hutto Hippos 5-5
  6. Bastrop Bears 3-7
  7. Connally Cougars 2-7
  8. Elgin Wildcats 2-8
  9. Cedar Creek Eagles 2-8

The season winds down at the end of this Month (April) and playoffs will start shortly thereafter for the top four teams. East View upset Cedar Park earlier this week to hold the final fourth spot. Will Rouse continue their Cinderella season, or will Georgetown continue to be the team to beat in 19-5A? Remember, Georgetown’s single blemish on their current district record was a loss to Rouse on the first road game of the season. However the baseballs fly, rest assured this will be an exciting finish.
